| By the nature of the beast, television commercials are the most visible creations to come out of any marketing outfit, and IU’s Office of Communications and Marketing (OCM), part of the IU Office of the Vice President for Public and Governmental Affairs, is no different. But as they say in those old gold rush movies, there’s plenty more where that came from.
In addition to commercials and streaming media, OCM offers various other services. Check out the current portfolio.
Marketing Research:
A research project was recently completed for admissions and other campus offices in the area of minority recruitment to IU Bloomington summer programs and how those opportunities might be maximized to reach a greater number of students. Research into non-traditional students, their needs and how they make their choices about where to go to college continues, as well, for all campuses but Bloomington.
OCM Publications Staff:
Professionals are currently working with all IU campuses, except IUPUI, on admissions literature development. “That’s not to say that they are creating all the books, posters and flyers,” said Sandra Conn, assistant vice president for public affairs and government relations. “In some cases they do the copy, in some the design.”
Media Development:
Susan Dillman joined the staff of the IU Office of the Vice President for Public Affairs and Government Relations as director of media relations last fall and serves as the primary university spokesperson and media contact. One of her goals is to understand the media as a “customer,” said Conn. Dillman, the former Indianapolis bureau chief for the South Bend Tribune covering the state legislature, is traveling the state to meet with members of the media.
Venture Fund:
Paid for by money from the university-wide marketing plan, this matching fund program is available to campus units for marketing efforts that meet several basic criteria: they must be transferable across campuses, they must demonstrate sustainability, and they must be compatible with the overall objectives of the university-wide marketing plan.
Web Site Development:
The OCM Web team members have designed and tested various IU Bloomington Web sites and site components. Check out the following sites for a peek at recently completed projects, including a new photo visit to the IUB campus:
