$1 million gift made to IUPUI School of Liberal Arts for linguistics

What happens when you combine a traveling book salesman and an English teacher? You’ll find the answer in a news release about a $1 million gift to the Indiana Center for Intercultural Communication (ICIC). Karl Zimmer and his wife, Barbara, have donated $1 million to the IU School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI to advance the linguistic-based programs of the ICIC.

Ulla Connor, director of ICIC, said the endowment will allow more research about language use in international and intercultural settings and that it also will enable ICIC to make contributions to public service projects. Zimmer is a retired manufacturing company chair, and his wife taught writing at IUPUI.
