Graduation Bar Crawl T-Shirt Design Contest

Create or suggest slogans or designs for the t-shirts that we’ll wear during our Bar Crawl

Due by Saturday, (11/12) @ 5:00 pm to amymarks@indiana.edu (CC: msisa@indiana.edu)

The Board will choose the “top 3” and will open up final voting

to all members the day after submission.

Note: Submissions are open for all, not just MSISA members

The end of the semester is approaching and that means only one thing – we need to prepare for the Fall 2011 Graduation Bar Crawl! We will take your designs and/or suggestions until this Saturday, November 12th at 5:00 pm. On Sunday November 13^th, we will send out links for a public poll to allow everyone the opportunity to decide on their top pick(s). The public polls will close Wednesday November 16^th at 11:59 pm. Then, on Thursday November 17^th we will send out the link for T-shirt purchasing which will close on Tuesday, November 22^nd at 12:00 pm. Please see below for submission guidelines.

Submission Guidelines

Shirt Design:
1. Include a front and back design & slogan. Typically, the front is a clean, simple graphic with “Graduation Bar Crawl” on it and the back is a more complex graphic.
2. We cannot personally identify with the MSIS program through the shirt, so keep your slogans a little more generic. J
3. Send your design to amymarks@indiana.edu and CC: msisa@indiana.edu.
4. See attached for prior designs!
File Formats:
1. PowerPoint Slide / Screenshot – Use PowerPoint and design a slide and either take a screenshot or submit the PPT deck.
2. CustomInk.com – Visit the http://www.customink.com/lab/ CustomInk “Lab” website and add graphics and text to the shirt as you see fit. Either take a screenshot of your final design or send yourself the link, then forward it to us.
3. Photoshop – Build out the layout in Photoshop and submit it as a PSD.

**Note: Regardless of the file format, the winning submission will be “cleaned up” (turned into high-resolution, clean-edged graphics) for the actual t-shirt. So don’t worry about making it perfect!

Timeline Summary

· Saturday November 12: Submissions due to amymarks@indiana.edu and msisa@indiana.edu by 5:00 pm

· Sunday November 13: Links will be sent out for voting on t-shirt design

· Wednesday November 16: Polls for the t-shirt design close at 11:59 pm

· Thursday November 17-Tuesday November 22: Purchasing for the t-shirt will be available

· Saturday December 3: MSISA Bar Crawl!

MSISA Kelley Student Business Cards Rd. 2

Round 2 has begun, visit the Store for purchasing information!

You may purchase a box of discounted Kelley-branded student business cards through the MSIS Association in the Store until Friday, August 26th at Midnight.

The completed cards will be available for pickup at Kelley on Tuesday, September 6th, before recruiting season begins.
During the second round, MSIS Students may purchase a box of 100 for $18 - or a box of 200 for $28.
We would like to warmly welcome GAP students to this opportunity as well! Note that due to the cost of modifying templates, there will be an additional $2 fee associated with non-MSIS orders.

Through local relationships, we have opened up the opportunity for students to purchase a box of discounted Kelley-branded student business cards through the MSIS Association in the Store. Not only will this be a valuable networking tool during mock interviews and recruiting - but, also great to help colleagues remember your information in the future!

All ordering by Monday, August 15th @ 8pm.
The completed cards will be available for pickup at Kelley on Thursday, August 25th, prior to mock interviews and recruiting events.

"Infonomics - New ways of thinking about Information Management" with Doug Laney

Doug is currently the Eminence and Marketing Lead for Deloitte’s Analytics Institute and is serving as a Faculty member of the Data Warehouse Institute (TDWI). Formerly, Doug founded a research firm called Evalubase Research Inc. where he served as Chief Research Officer. Doug graduated from the University of Illinois in 1986 with degrees in software engineering and business administration. And in addition to his career listed previously Doug has worked at Abbot Laboratories, Andersen Consulting, BMC software, and several others.

Infonomics is a new field designed to study and address how organizations function as an information ecosystem. Some potential topics that Doug covered are:

Knowledge economy
Organization as an information system
Information laws
Search for relevance as informational energy
Knowledge as value
Beyond information access to information understanding
Internet as a transformational factor of business

MSISA Community Service Day [Mon (8/23) @ 7:30am]

As part of our mission, the MSISA is working on getting more involved with the community of Bloomington. This is a great opportunity for anyone/everyone to give back to a community, which gives so much to the school. It is also highly encouraged for incoming students as it is also a great time to network with fellow students and engage in activities that will allow for better discussions in interviews.

Skills Needed – None! All you need to bring is yourself and the organizations will give you any/all training necessary for the individual events.
Transportation – Provided by the ISGP office and fellow MSIS members. Students will meet in the atrium and divide into rental shuttles and cars to be taken to the selected volunteer sites. Rides will also take you back to the Kelley School of Business.
- It will take place at various locations, including a community gardening project in Bloomington, a landscaping project at Griffey Lake and at a maintenance project at a local day camp and Girls club.

Welcome to the New MSISA Website!

On behalf of the MSIS Association, I would like to welcome you to our newly renovated home on the internet! You'll see areas start to fill up with content over the coming months as we cultivate valuable materials for our members to take advantage of.

As your wander the site, you'll notice a fresher feel, more content and a revised structure. There are a few new areas I would like to call out in particular:

News - A standard welcome page (what you're viewing right now) that will contain, on average, bi-weekly updates from the organization that contain event photos, calendar additions and IS academic-style articles. A great place to start browsing!
Events - A calendar listing of our planned events throughout the semester. Note that you will be receiving Outlook invites via your e-mail accounts as event dates become closer - but, we won't bother bogging down your inbox with events that are tentative and months away.
Resources (members only) - An area that contains materials from prior Speaker Series and Workshop events and seasonal applications for involvement. As we add to this page throughout the semester, it should become a great place to go for interview preparation, case workshops and other recruiting information.
