Mission

The mission of the METACyt Biochemical Analysis Center is to provide access and training for research in state of the art biochemical analysis. These activities should promote the best use of a wide variety of modern bioanalytical techniques including high resolution chromatography and multi-dimensional mass spectrometry. The Center may operate in widely diverse areas, such as proteomics, metabolomics and chemical structure elucidation, to name but a few. Primary users for the Center services will include: METACyt Nodes/Centers, their collaborators, faculty and students at IUB, the School of Medicine, and the IU system as a whole, in that order of preference. Because of the unique nature of the Center, and the wide applicability of biochemical analysis to many areas of scientific inquiry, special efforts will be directed at making the Center accessible to as wide a range of scientists as possible.

The Center strives to become as independent as possible, generating its own support from collaborative as well as independent extramural funding initiatives, in addition to revenue from user fees. The Center will also evolve to play both primary and supporting roles in both Bloomington campus initiatives and IUSOM initiatives to create federal centers of excellence, or other large scale externally supported ventures.
