Guía de Lectura

La última niebla
de María Luisa Bombal

(pp. 13-55 in your text)

1.  As and/or after you read, complete and bring to class the brief guide
in the back of the book, pages 124-126.  There you will find the following
excercises (on pages 124-126) that I am modifying or clarifying here a
bit.  Read what I have below along side those pages to understand which
excercises I'm talking about.

a)escribir la trama de la novela. (pp.124-5) What the directions say about
"disposicion sujetiva"  means to just keep in mind who and in what
state of mind is telling the story. Put in as much detail as you
can, but this shouldn't go over half a page unless you want to.

b)motivos literarios:  Consider "niebla" in the novel:  (p.125)
b1)where does this concept of "niebla" show up? do this exercise
looking for the three most important points in your opinion.
b2) do this for four of the motivos they list, and find at least 2
points in the text for each motivo (cite the page number and
briefly summarize what the example is). Think about what the
passages you chose say about that motivo.

Comprensión de lectura (pp.125-6)
a)do this easy true/false
b)Answer these 10 content questions regarding the reading.  They do not
have to be excessively long answers.  Just until you feel that
        you've answered teh question well.

The title:  (this is not in the novel's guide):
The last thing I would like you to do is consider the title of the novel.
It appears to have symbolic meaning...  Write at least a paragraph about
what you think the title may mean, or the different meanings it might
have.

Don't forget that at times it may be difficult to tell what is *really*happening or not.  Don't be worried about that, it *should* happen.  Just be thinking about it as you go and what it might mean that the novel makes you unsure, and how it manages to make you unsure.  Write down any questions you have and bring them to class on Tuesday.
