Welcome to Collins! I’m Laura, a junior majoring in Environmental Science and minoring in Political and Civic Engagement and Mathematics. At Collins, I’m one of the co-chairs of the Board of Educational Programmers (BOEP) and a leader of the Collins Film Society, and in the greater IU community, I’m a Director of Environmentalism for the Residence Halls Association. I was born in Houston, TX, and I lived most of my life in Indianapolis. Now you have some information about me, but in Q199, I’ll be looking forward to learning about you! Together, we will explore what it means to live in Collins, attend IU, and be a citizen of Bloomington through eight fun-filled weeks of ideas, reflections, field trips, activities, and projects. I hope you love life in Collins as much as I do!

Well hey there! I’m Matt Colin, a junior majoring in chemistry and philosophy. I’m originally from Carmel, IN and have loved living in Collins for the past few years. I’m involved with the Collins Board of Educational Programmers and the Collins Film Society, among other activities. This semester is gonna be swell and I think you’ll all enjoy the Q Class experience. Feel free to ask me any questions you might have! While I’m pretty quiet, I’d love to get to know all of you new Collinsites. I hope you all are as excited for the upcoming semester as I am!

Hellooooo new Collinsites! I’m Ashley Dillon, and I cannot wait to meet you! I am a junior majoring in English with a focus on Creative Writing, minoring in Spanish (my first language, I would LOVE to practice with you if you’d like) and Anthropology.  But don’t worry if that’s not for you, because our Q class will be a little bit of everything! My interests are writing, painting, and traveling. At Collins I am part of the Arts Council, have been involved in Community Council and was editor of the Collins Columns, but don’t worry if you don’t know what any of that means just yet. In our Q class I’ll guide you through the ins-and-outs of Collins, as well as resources and facilities here at IU. Get pumped and get ready because we’re about to have a great time!

Tues, Thurs | 10:10 - 11:00 am
Cravens C
Sect: 7744

Salutations, new Collinsites! My name is Josh Dominguez, and I am a junior double majoring in honors Spanish and studio art, along with a certificate through the Liberal Arts and Management Program (LAMP). I am also currently serving in Collins as the Visual Arts Coordinator for Arts Council, a Promotions Co-Coordinator for the Board of Programmers, and the LLC's Facilities Coordinator. Don't fret--despite that mouthful of educational and extracurricular goodness, I do still somehow manage to find time for sleeping, eating, and other basic necessities!

I'm embarrassingly excited to be a Q-instructor this year--together we'll examine the difference between Collins and any 'ol "regular" dorm; be it through investigating the rich culture and history of the LLC, the myriad opportunities for student empowerment, the communal drive for academic excellence... or perhaps the simpler things, like late-night study sessions in the coffeehouse, finding "the usual" at the Cheshire Café, or movie marathons with friends in the Cinema. Either way, in our class, we will find something that makes Collins special for you, and how you can utilize the LLC's resources to both benefit from and give back to the community as a whole.

A bit about me personally... I'm from a town of little consequence called Marion, Indiana, and enjoy playing Pokémon, blasting punk rock, and staying up past 3 AM. I don't like piña coladas or getting caught in the rain, but one thing's for sure: I'm hopelessly in love with Collins, and I hope that by the end of our time together, you will be too!

Aloha!  I’m Frances, or Frankie if you prefer.  This year will be my fourth, and final, year at Collins, and I’m psyched to be your Q-teacher.  My theme song is “Invincible” by Pat Benetar.  I am currently studying English and Classical Civilizations, and have a French minor.  Come talk to me any time about books, movies, music, gardening, food, language, fluffy animals or whatever tickles –your- fancy!  Of course, another one of my favorite things to talk about is Collins.  Hopefully, by the end of your time in my class, it’ll be one of your favorite things to talk about, too!  I can’t wait to meet you in person; we’re gonna rock this semester out! We will be invincible...

Howdy folks! Welcome to Collins! We’ll bump into each another soon enough, but let me do a quick introduction. My name is Barton, and above all else I am an avid lover of stories. In fact, as a member of the Collins Arts Council, I helped found the Collins Storytelling Project—don’t worry, we’ll chat about how to recruit you. Twice a semester we gather twelve members of the community to share true stories to an audience while broadcasting through a local radio station. Sounds like fun, right? This is just one example of the many ideas that floated around Collins and became a reality. As your Q-instructor, let’s work together to make your ideas come to life, too! I can’t wait to hear your stories and ideas!

The facts: I am a double major in Gender Studies and Human Migration and Diaspora Studies. My hats include the Chair of Arts Council in Collins, Member of the Board of Educational Programming in Collins, Director of GLBT Affairs for the IU Student Association, Co-President for Rethinking Incarceration, Intern at the Bloomington Storytelling Project, and Intern at the GLBT Student Support Services. But who wants to read a resume? Let’s brew a pot of tea and chat about what all of this means.

Dearest Collinsites,

I am Hana Horton, a senior studying journalism, political science, and civic engagement. This year I will be serving as the president of Collins Student Government. I will also be working with a regional residence hall organization as the representative for Indiana. As it happens, I am Collins’ biggest fan and I am supremely excited about teaching Q class again! In Q class we will learn together what makes Collins a community and a home rather than a dorm. We will also explore the resources and opportunities available to you at IU and within the Bloomington community. I can’t wait to get to know you and I hope you will LOVE Collins as much as I do!!!

Sincerely,
Hana

I am currently the Vice President of the Collins Board of Programmers (BOP for short) and I work in the Edmondson Dining Hall. I am also an avid Disney-fanatic, so don’t be surprised to hear some Disney music playing when you come into class. I’m really excited to meet you and teach you how Collins works!

Hello there! I'm Debby Ineich and I am so excited to be a returning Q instructor here at Collins! As a senior majoring in Studio Art and minoring in Art History, I love photography, metalwork, and Gothic Cathedrals. However, that hardly covers everything! I am a proud fourth year Collinsite. While I am pumped to show you all that Collins has to offer you, I am also excited to help you discover what you can offer Collins!

Hey new Collinsites!

I'm a junior majoring in and passionate about Art History and Classical Studies, and I love living at Collins and napping in the courtyard--so much so that this is my third year here.  I am sincerely excited to meet  each of you, and I'm so glad that you decided to live at Collins because you're going to have a great first year (and beyond) here.  As a Q-Class we'll be spending a lot of time getting to know each other and Collins' core values, and you'll learn how to impact your new friends and the community by implementing those values in programming at Collins.  I can't wait to meet you!

Congratulations! You’ve finally made it to college! My name is Allison Shaw and I’m a junior majoring in Psychology. This is my third year living at Collins and I am so grateful for my time here. At Collins, I am involved with BOEP and I am the Community Council Chair, as well as being a Welcome Week Assistant (which means there’s a good possibility that I’ll see you on Move-In Day – say “hi”!). I love to read and I probably watch a little too much TV… Doctor Who or Firefly, anyone?

I’m super excited to welcome you to IU and Collins and can’t wait to meet you! This semester, we’re going to talk about what it means to be a resident of Collins. This is a place where you can take an active role in the community. You will soon find out what a vibrant and exciting community Collins is, and in this class you’ll learn about all the things that go into making Collins what it is – much of which has to do with you, the resident! You’ll get first hand experience putting on a program through your Q-Project (don’t worry about that now, I’ll explain when we get to class) and we’ll take some field trips to useful and interesting parts of campus and Bloomington.

Well, hello there!  I’m Betsy Stout, a junior studying Studio Art and Contemporary Dance as well as a proud third-year Collinsite.  When not teaching Q-class, I like to pick wildflowers, paint on people, and burn stir-fry.   I love Tchaikovsky, webcomics, poor English-Japanese translations, and making up singularly unattractive dance moves.   I’m also a barista in Collins’s own Cheshire Café, and will serve you tasty beverages with a grin that disappears last.

I’m super hardcore excited to meet you all, and hope you’re ready to fall in love with Collins like I have.  So get stoked, get ready, and let’s have a great semester together.

Hello! My name is Sarah Williams, and this is my fourth year living in Collins. I'm a senior majoring in Comparative Literature and Informatics and minoring in History and Fine Arts. I am also a manager at the Cheshire Café (Collins' student-run, not-for-profit coffee shop) and I'm working as Collins' Publicity Coordinator this year. I love to knit, crochet, watch Law & Order, and read, and the depth of my love for coffee is kind of embarrassing.

In addition to discovering why the residents of Collins identify so strongly with gnomes, Q class is a fantastic opportunity to find out more about IU, Bloomington, and Collins itself. I can't wait to share my love for the home of the Gnomes with you all!

I am Jeremiah, a Q-teacher. I enjoy videogames and swing sets. I'm a major in Telecommunications with a minor in Creative Writing. I've been in Collins for my entire time here at IU and it’s been a great place to live and work. If you want to know more about me then find me sometime and we can talk. I'd like to think I'm approachable.

Hi Collnsites! Welcome to IU and to you new home here at Collins! My name is Kristina Weber and I am so excited to be able to be a peer instructor this year and get to know you all as you fall in love with Collins and make new friends in Q199.  I am a junior studying Economic Consulting and International Business at the Kelley School of Business here at IU.  Along with being a Q Instructor, I am very involved on campus especially with Women in Business and as a Teaching Assistant.  Also, during the last two years, I was one of the directors of Philanthropy at Collins. I love to travel and have had the opportunity to travel to India, Nicaragua, and Greece since I have been at IU and hope to continue to travel the world!  In my free time at school I like to volunteer, read, drink coffee, watch cooking shows, and spend time with friends.  There is so much to do on campus, and Q199 will be a wonderful way to get a taste of your new life at IU! This being my third year at Collins, I clearly think it is a wonderful place to live, have fun, and make life-long friends and I hope you are as excited as I am to be here!  See you soon =)

Welcome to Collins!  I am Bradley Williams.  Believe it or not, I am a senior living in Collins and teaching Q199 for the third year in a row.  I study Accounting and Finance at the Kelley School of Business; and during the second semester of my junior I lived, took classes, and worked as an intern in Seville, Spain.  I love travel, culture, and food.  During my freshman year at Collins, I participated in the Board of Programmers, the group that coordinates Collins’s social events.  I also hosted a program with a friend on Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle.  The next year, I served as treasurer.  I hope to help my students find their place in Collins and ease their transition into university life.
