GEOGRAPHY

As a rule, materials dealing with other geographical areas are not considered if they focus on individual counties especially if they are countries covered by area librarians. Materials are considered if they deal with a particular subject on a continental basis, or large geographical areas. This is to insure that important works of such a nature are acquired if they have not been, by the area librarians.

SCOPE OF COVERAGE

The acquisitions policy for political science is also determined by several other considerations:

FORMATS COLLECTED

Acquisition of introductory texts is made on a very selective basis. Retrospective acquisitions are done very selectively, focusing on the purchase of important works, the addition of which serve to correct deficiencies or weaknesses in the collection as it has evolved over time. Retrospective selections include reviewing reprint publications, microfilm collections, and out-of-print catalogs. The emphasis of collection development is to acquire materials supporting current research.
