Located on the first floor of the Research Collections of the Main Library, the Reference Department houses the main reference collection of the library, including encyclopedias, dictionaries, atlases, indexes, and bibliographies. The books are intended to be used in the Reading Room. Assistance is also available with the Libraries' catalog, with hundreds of licensed networked resources and with any research or informational query or problem.

The Reference Desk is staffed by librarians, professional and support staff Monday through Thursday from 8am to 10pm; Friday to 5pm; Saturday from 10am to 5pm and Sundays from 1pm to 5pm. A directory of our names and titles is posted by the Reference Desk. Graduate student assistants (largely in MLS or PhD programs in the School of Library and Information Science) also assist at the Desk and help us extend our coverage to all the hours the Main Library is open. Please contact us for help in the way that best suits your need.
