Accessing Electronic Resources

Who May Use These Resources
Indiana University-Bloomington purchases over 150 electronically based information resources. Access to many of these resources requires signed purchase agreements or licenses that restrict the use of the information to IU-B affiliated faculty, students and staff or to patrons in the IU-B Libraries. Some resources can be accessed from outside the libraries, others are restricted to on-campus, and still others may be accessed from anywhere by anyone. Below is a description of the symbols used to represent the form of access available for each resource appearing on the list of databases.

Alphabetical list of all databases

Access in IU Bloomington libraries only This resource may only be used from a workstation in the IUB Libraries.
IU Bloomington On-Campus Only This resource may only be used from Indiana University-Bloomington IP (Internet Protocol) addresses. To access these resources, users must be connected to the Bloomington campus network. This includes:
  • all workstations in IUB libraries
  • all workstations in IU Bloomington campus buildings with a connection to the campus network (offices, UITS computer clusters, residence halls, etc.)
  • users who dial-in to the IUB campus modem pool. Connecting to the campus modem pool requires a valid IUB network ID and password. IUware software is required to connect to the modem pool. It is available from the IU bookstore or electronically through IUware Online. For more information see the Knowledge Base at http://kb.indiana.edu/
Authorized IU Bloomington Users This resource can be accessed through the Internet from anywhere with a valid IU-B ADS domain ID. The IU-B ADS domain ID is limited to current IU-B faculty, staff and students. When logging on to one of these resources there will be a prompt for an IU-B ADS domain ID and password. Some databases, such as Ovid, require a sign-on no matter where the database is used. For most databases, validated sign-on is only required of users accessing the databases from off-campus. Information about IU-B ADS domain IDs can be found at http://kb.indiana.edu/data/addn.html
Unrestricted Access Access to resources marked with the globe symbol is open to all Internet users. These resources are accessible to anyone, regardless of affiliation.
