In ERIC the author's name appears in the database as it appears on the item. To search for all works by an author it is best to search all variations of the name using the author indexes.

1. Click on Indexes.
2. From the menu in the Browse and Index box.
3. Type the author's last name followed by the first
4. Mark in the box next to the names you wish to search.
5. Click on Search. The results of the search will include any records with SMITH J or SMITH JOHN or SMITH JOHN A, in the author field.
6. Review each record and read the abstract to evaluate each item in your result list.
7. Click the New Search option to return to the search page.
