Using the Thesaurus
The most efficient searches are subject searches using the subject terms
from the Thesaurus. Before beginning a search it is important that you
have thought about what it is you would like to search. In this
tutorial we want to know about using computers for
social studies activities in elementary education.
To begin the search:
- Click on Thesaurus on the bar at the top of the Search
page.
- In the Browse for box, type the subject term:
computer
- Click on Browse.
The result list will put you into the Thesaurus starting with the term
Computer access. Valid subject terms are
highlighted and underlined. Review the list for the highlighted subject
term:
- COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION and click on the term.
The resulting page will display the SCOPE NOTE (usually is ERIC's
definition of the term and other useful information); Broader Terms;
Narrower Terms; and Related Terms. All of the terms on this page are valid
subject terms.
- Click on the box next to COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTION
- Click Search at the top of the page.
Selecting Search will search the database for the subject term
Computer Assisted Instruction.
