The Hoagy Carmichael Collection Project was a joint project of the Archives of Traditional Music and The Indiana University Digital Library Program, funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Between 1999 and 2000, the project digitized and cataloged hundreds of important documents and audiovisual artifacts from the Hoagy Carmichael collection at Indiana University. The digitized materials are available online through services provided by the Digital Library Program. The Hoagy Carmichael Collection at the Archives of Traditional Music is the largest grouping of materials pertaining to Carmichael's life available anywhere. Complementing this collection are Carmichael's manuscripts and sheet music at the Lilly Library, IU's principal special collections repository, as well as materials at the IU Archives.
The web site presents a complete catalog of the entire Carmichael Collection, access to selected digital objects, and supplemental research information, such as genealogy. The Hoagy Carmichael Collection contains sound recordings of Hoagy's music, letters, photographs of him and his family, print and handwritten musical compositions, and more.
