Effective March 3 Douglas Barley accepted the Office Services Assistant position in Library Administration. Prior to joining I.U. Doug was employed with Andrew, Harrell, Mann, Chapman & Coyne Law firm.
Todd Daniels-Howell, Associate Librarian, joined the IUPUI University Libraries on January 15, 1997 and is the Special Collections Team Leader. Todd previously was Associate Curator of Manuscript Acquisitions with the Minnesota Historical Society in St. Paul Minnesota and had been with the Minnesota Historical Society since 1990.
Effective March 1 Adam Gluckman accepted the Assistant Head position in the Swain Hall Library. Prior to accepting this position, Adam was a Library Assistant in the Swain Hall Library. He has a BA degree in Physics and Math, a MA in Philosophy of Science, and MLS.
Ophelia Roop, in the Herron School of Art Library at Indianapolis resigned her position there effective January 1, 1997.
2. LECTURE AT S L I S ON MONDAY
Mr. Wu Ge, a Chinese Rare Books specialist and scholar, will be giving a lecture at the IU School of Library and Information Science (SLIS) on Monday, March 10, 1997 in Room 033 (SLIS) from 3:00 to 4:00 pm. The title will be "Collection, Cataloging, and Access" of Chinese rare books. The lecture is sponsored jointly by SLIS and the East Asian Studies Center, and arrangements are made also with the assistance from the East Asian Collection of the IU Library.
Mr. Wu is head of the Old and Rare Books Division, Fudan University Library in Shanghai, China. He is presently a Visiting Research Specialist at the Rudolph East Asian Library, UCLA. He is well known among the East Asian library and academic communities both in China and in North America for his expertise on Chinese rare books. Mr. Wu will give two presentations: one at 3:00-4:00 pm on "Collection, Cataloging, Access" of Chinese rare books to a general audience (talk in Chinese with English interpretation), and another at 4:00-5:00 pm. on "Use in Research" for those who use Chinese rare books in their research (talk in Chinese only.)
I am pleased to announce that the February 28th deadline for submitting InULA Research Incentive Funds (RIF) applications has been extended to March 31st. RIF Guidelines and the Application Form are available on the InULA Home Page (http://www.indiana.edu/~inula or by contacting Phil Bantin, University Archives. I would also like to announce that the InULA Board has approved the use of RIF funds for the rental of laptop computer s to support research activities.
4. SEARCH AND SCREEN COMMITTEE APPOINTED
The search and screen committee for the position of Deputy Head, Cook Music Library has been appointed. Committee members are:

The National Endowment for the Humanities provides support for six to twelve months of full-time work on a project that will make a significant contribution to thought and knowledge in the humanities. Fellowships are awarded through two programs: Fellowships for University Teachers and Fellowships for College Teachers and Independent Scholars.
