STAFF NEWS

*Amy Cope will be leaving the IUB Libraries to sing with the Minnesota Opera in their Resident Artist Program. Amy has worked in the IU Libraries since 1994, first in the Undergraduate Library and then as SLIS Library Branch Coordinator. She has also been working on a Doctor of Music degree in Voice, and many of us have had the pleasure of hearing her sing in IU School of Music productions. Although we will miss her, we are very proud of her and wish her all the best in her career.

Submitted by: Julie Bobay, Head, SLIS Library *Bob Moran, Director of Library Services at the Northwest campus has been appointed Associate Editor of Library Administration and Management, the quarterly publication of the Library Administration and Management Division of ALA. Bob will serve as Associate Editor for two years and Editor for the following two years.

THANK YOU

I'd like to thank Harold Shaffer, Matt Myers, and the rest of the Facilities Services staff for their reliable and efficient work in helping move furniture, files, and equipment from our old work space into our newly renovated areas in the Journalism Library. I'd also like to thank Ron Hafft of Library Information Technology for coming in on a Saturday to move and set up computers and equipment. And I'd like to give a special thanks to Linda Butler for her work in planning and implementing the move and for paying attention to all the important details. This renovation has been a long time coming, and there's still work left to do, but I'm very happy with the results of this important first stage of the project. We are able now to provide uninterrupted (--and I think enhanced) service to our many patrons. Thanks, again, to one and all.

Frank Quinn
Acting Head, Journalism Library

LIBRARY NEWS

*IUPUI University Library Features Special Collection Exhibit

The exhibit, Fund Raising Publications: Another Way to Study History, was recently put on display in the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library of the IUPUI University Library. The philanthropic manuscript collections held by the Library's Special Collections and Archives are generally used to study philanthropy in the United States, but these materials have broader applications.

Fund Raising Publications: Another Way to Study History brings specific focus to publications issued during fund raising campaigns in the twentieth century and how they reflect the events and conditions of the times in which they were published and offer clues into the attitudes of the people who wrote and received them. The exhibit covers the period from the 1920s through the 1980s and targets the Great Depression, World War II, the Cold War, economic development, social issues, and hospitals and healthcare.

The exhibit is on display through November 2000 in the Joseph and Matthew Payton Philanthropic Studies Library, room UL 2110, on Level Two of the IUPUI University Library, 755 West Michigan Street. The exhibit may be viewed during the Library's regular hours of operation. For further information, please call University Library Special Collections and Archives at (317) 274_0464 or send an e_mail message to speccoll@iupui.edu.
