IUPUI University Library Staff Elected to National Council
IUPUI University Library Staff Elected to National Council The American Library Association (ALA) recently held annual national elections, and Marie Turner-Wright, Associate Librarian, University Library was elected to join colleagues from around the country as a member of the ALA Council as Councilor-at-large, 2001-2004.
The Council is the governing body of the ALA, and it delegates authority to the divisions of the Association to plan and carry out programs and activities with policy established by the Council. The ALA promotes the creation, maintenance, and enhancement of a learning society, encouraging its members to work with educators, government officials, and organizations in coalitions to initiate and support comprehensive efforts to ensure that school, public, academic, and special libraries in every community cooperate to provide lifelong learning services to all.
Marie Turner-Wright joined the IUPUI library staff in 1981, and has worked in the areas of public services. For 10 years Marie has also taught Chidren's Literature for IUPUI School of Liberal Arts, Department of English.
Turner-Wright's interest in programming resulted in the selection of the IUPUI University Library as the site for three ALA-sponsored national touring exhibitions, supported by the National Endowment for the Humanities. She is currently finalizing plans as coordinator for an ALA "Live @ the Library" program, supported by the National Endowment for the Arts and to be hosted by the University Library, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the birth of American jazz great, Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong.

Welcome to the InfoZone
Thursday, May 31, 2000, 5:00PM
It has been long since our last meeting and it is time to catch up with old friends and colleagues and learn what is happening in special libraries across the state.
Indiana Chapter of Special Libraries Association continues a tradition of introducing new special libraries on the state map. This time it is InfoZone which opened in December 2000 at the Children's Museum in Indianapolis.
Make sure you mark your calendar right away and register now for the opportunity to network and explore new resources.
InfoZone is a library within a museum representing an innovative approach in bringing together special and community libraries. It is a joint venture between the Museum and the Indianapolis- Marion County Public Library (I-MCPL). Library and museum officials believe InfoZone will serve as a national model for partnerships between museums and libraries.
Featured speakers - Marti Mosemiller, the InfoZone director and Haley Barger Whalen, a Development Researcher of the Museum - will present resources available to patrons and community, resources the museum uses in its fund-raising efforts, and the technology projects in which the library and information museum professionals are involved. The program will also feature Theresa M. Tyner, a senior librarian at the Indiana Youth Institute, who will expand your knowledge of the state resources that are available to educators.
The meeting will begin with a private tour of the museum collections. The collections are rarely seen by the general public (there is a plan to digitize some of them). A tour of the InfoZone follows.
Agenda:
5:00 - 5:45 PM - Collections tour, meet in the front lobby of The
Children's Museum.
6:00 - 6:15 PM - InfoZone tour, meet on Level 2 by the library.
6:30 - 8:00 PM - Presentations and dinner, Executive Board Room, 3d
Level Administrative Offices.
