*Thanks to IU Librarians

When then-ALA president Nancy Kranich visited IU last year, she provided us a sense of how the School of Library and Information Science is perceived by the "outside world." Among her academic library colleagues in New York, IU SLIS's special strength is preparing outstanding academic librarians - librarians who understand and can work effectively in research libraries, and who often hold subject master's or other advanced degrees or training.

SLIS is committed to maintaining and building on that reputation. I would especially like to thank the IU librarians who have helped to develop and maintain our specializations and advanced courses:

African Studies: Marion Frank Wilson
Archives: Philip Bantin
Chemistry: Gary Wiggins
Government Information: Lou Malcomb, Andrea Morrison
Fine Arts Librarianship: B.J. Irvine
Health Sciences Librarianship: Fran Brahmi
Law Librarianship: Linda Fariss, Keith Buckley
Music Librarianship: Mary Wallace Davidson, Michael Fling, David Lasocki, A. Ralph Papakhian, Sue Stancu
Rare Books/Special Collections: Joel Silver, Saundra Taylor
Science Information: Robert Noel
Slavic Studies: Murlin Croucher
Social Sciences: Carolyn Walters, Emily Okada, Diane Dallis, Julie Bobay, Frank Quinn, Moira Smith, Celestina Wroth,
Lou Malcomb, Martha Brogan, Xiao Jason Yu

Thanks, too, to the IU Librarians who have taught the core courses on which these advanced electives build, and to those who have supervised SLIS interns, providing valuable introductions to professional life. My apologies if I have omitted other contributors. SLIS students and graduates continue to benefit from and appreciate the strengths of this university.
