PART 5: Sample of Young Adult Literature (Titles and Authors) BY TOPIC for Bibliotherapeutic Use

DEFINITION: Young Adult Literature, or YAL

body of literary works (novels, plays, poetry, non-fiction) specifically created for and about adolescents and their concerns and interests.

(Note: Children's Literature can also be use for bibliotherapeutic purposes.)

On this page are samples of issues topics, arranged alphabetically, with recommended Young Adult Literature (YAL) title/authors relating to the topic. Although titles from past decades are included, the emphasis here is on fiction works from the 90's. A few titles are "adult" literature which some educators find appropriate for teens. Note: Many titles fit into multiple categories and some are listed in more than one. Titles and issues topics are added and updated on a monthly basis, beginning 7/99.

IN THE WORKS: In the near future, a DOUBLE-CLICK on any highlighted title will bring up brief synopsis of the novel and age/grade recommendation as well as other pertinent information such as publisher and copyright.
