Reading Minor Placement (X425)

Letter to Cooperating Teacher


Dear Cooperating Teacher:

In recognition of the importance of adequately preparing students to be qualified reading teachers, faculty at thed Indiana University Language Education Department have delineated a list of competencies for students seeking a Reading Minor. You will find at this site the X425 syllabus, the competency list, and even related assignments which, when completed, will be added to the student's other evaluative materials and used to determine a final grade.

We have tried to design the assignments with your busy schedule in mind, and they should not take up excessive class time. I would greatly appreciate your help in the following ways:

  1. Provide your student teacher with advice.
  2. Assist student in locating materials such as school records, tests, and reading resources at the school.
  3. In order to assure confidentiality, ask students to use fictitious names when reporting on individual learners.
  4. Respond to the student teacher's professional performance on the criteria checklist.
