Course Description

The following goals guide the course:

• To help participants develop their own understanding of the composing processes as well as to enhance each participant's ability to write;  
• To help students become familiar with theory, principles and practices of teaching writing in elementary schools; 
• To help participants become familiar with children's composing processes and language development; 
• To help participants develop a sensitive, critical awareness of diversity issues in the teaching of writing.

This course uses a system called Oncourse for class discussion. You can access the course by going to http://oncourse.iu.edu. You will need to contact the instructor to get your username and password for this system.  You will need an IU Network ID to access the system.  To get one, go to http://itaccounts.iu.edu after you register for the course.
