Meet the Orientation Leaders!

These students are chosen because of their interpersonal skills, academic achievements and leadership abilities. Student Orientation Leaders serve as positive role models and have the opportunity to welcome new students and parents to the IU Kokomo community. Student Orientation Leaders assists the orientation staff, facilitate small group discussions, participate in skits, help new students to register and always convey the spirit and sense of community that is a part of the IU Kokomo campus.  Look for them through the year to assist you.

Amanda Smith

My name is Amanda Smith and I am currently finishing up my junior year as a Psychology major.  In addition to working as an orientation leader, I also work as a Peer Advisor for the School of Arts & Sciences and Exploratory, and for the School of Educations and Continuing Studies.  I have also worked as a Peer Mentor for IU-SEEK.  Although I currently live in the Kokomo area, I am originally from the Fort Wayne area and moved here three years ago.

My name is Shelby Waggoner, and I am in my third semester here at IU Kokomo as a Humanities major. I am from St. Louis, Missouri and currently live in Kokomo. I have been a part of the IUK Crescendos Show Choir as well as the IUK Drama Program since I have moved here, and would be happy to recruit and help new members! I love drawing & painting, acting, singing and being creative.

I work in the media/marketing office at IU-Kokomo and I love every minute of it! I serve in several capacities, (Editor-in-Chief of the campus newspaper, Student Government Association Senator). In my leisure I like to curl up to a good book, watch movies or go shopping”.

I am a third year student, majoring in Pre-Radiography.  I currently serve as an orientation leader and I work in the welcome center.  I am also a member of the Student Ambassadors.  Besides being a student, I am married and a mom of three daughters.

I am a Nursing and Psychology double major.  I am currently a Sophomore 1 in the nursing program and live in Peru with my wife and 8-month old daughter whom I delivered.  I am President of the Student Athletics and Wellness board and President of the Student Veterans Organization.  I am the Vice-President of the Psychology Club, Assistant Editor of The Correspondent, and IU SEEK Mentor, a Student Ambassador, and an Orientation Leader.

“My name is Hollie Boyles and I am currently a junior in the Radiography program and I also work in the Chancellor’s office.  In addition to being a student at Indiana University Kokomo; I am also an Orientation Leader, a Student Ambassador, Senator and Parliamentarian in the Student Government Association and President of the Medical Imaging club.  My favorite color is yellow and some of my favorite things to do is laughing and buying shoes”.

“My name is Tony Wood and I am from Monticello, Indiana.  My major is Business with a concentration in Finance and Economics.  For the past two years, I have served as an orientation leader, work in the library at the circulation desk and served as president of the Folklore and Urban Legends club.  I also have a certificate in homeland security”.

“My name is Kristianna Upchurch and I am a nationally certified pharmacy technician. I am a senior Public and Environmental Affairs major (with concentration in Health Administration and a minor in Leadership and International studies).  I currently serve as an orientation leader, peer advisor, student ambassador, and representative for the degree completion task force, president of SIFE, SGA Senator and secretary of the Student Government Finance Committee.  Not only am I active on campus I am also active in the community; where I serve on the Board of Directors for the Gilead house.  I almost forgot to mention, I LOVE YOGA”!

Sophomore at IUK transfered from USI. Born in Kokomo and raised in Noblesville, IN. Plan to get my degree and continue with it to my master's and eventually to obtain a doctorate in my field of study. Current career goals include being a counselor or possibly a forensic psychologist.

“My name is Tiffiny Ziegler and I am a junior radiography major here at Indiana University Kokomo.  I plan to go to the Medical imaging Technologist program and get my bachelor’s in one of many modalities of radiology.  In addition to being an orientation leader, I am the chairman for the fundraising committee for the Medical imaging Club. I like to participate in as many campus activities as I can as a way to create connections with my peers.  I have made several friends this way and believe it I a great experience”.

I am currently a New Media Major with a concentration in Digital Development, minoring in Environmental Science. On campus, I am a member of both the New Media and French clubs. Upon graduation, I plan to stay within the IU Network and study environmental and media law. In my spare time, I enjoy biking, hiking, and anything else outdoors. I am also an avid Internet Meme enthusiast.

“My name is Brittany Burney and I will be graduating from the Radiography Program in the Spring of 2012, and  I look forward to entering the Medical Imaging program in the fall of 2012.  I am involved with the medical Imaging Club, Student Ambassadors, SIFE, Student Alumni Association, IU Kokomo Crescendos as well as being an orientation Leader. I participate in many volunteer service projects and activities within the community. IU KOKOMO ROCKS!!!”

My name is Gabby Davis, and I'm a sophomore, soon to be junior here at IU Kokomo. I was in the sorority Phi Sigma Sigma for two years, and I previously worked in the School of Arts and Sciences, as well as the Education and Continuing Studies Advising Office. I currently work in the Writing Center on campus, providing English tutoring for students that need help, and have been there for almost a year now and I love every minute of it! This is my first time as an Orientation Leader on campus, and I am super excited about getting to know all of the orientation leaders as well as all of the incoming students! What do I do when I'm not in classes or working? I like to hang out with my friends, go shopping, watch movies, read, and dance!

I am a psychology major with a minor in Leadership Studies.  In addition to being an Orientation Leader; I am also Student Body President of Student Government Association.  I am treasurer of Psychology Club, contributing writer to the campus newspaper, The Correspondent, and serve as a teaching assistant for PSYCH-P326 Neuroscience class with Dr. Kevin Clark, a psychology professor.  I am a member of the Cougar Crazies which is the student cheer section for our basketball and volleyball teams.  I also sit on IUK’s student panel for VIP days and answer questions visiting high school students may have about our campus and college life.  I am very involved!
