1. 되다 literally means 'become' or 'turn out'. ∼게되다, literally meaning 'turn out to ∼', 'come to ∼' or 'get to ∼', expresses a change in situation or turn of events. That is, a person was in one event and is now in another event. The change in situation or turn of events is mostly accidental or something that is independent of the person's will or volition. It is typically used in telling news.

 2. ∼게되다 is mostly used with verbs.

 3. ∼게되다 is compared with ∼어지다 (G1.1), which combines mostly with adjectives and expresses a change of state.

• 날씨가갑자기추워졌어요. 'It's become cold suddenly.'
• 서울요즘많이달라졌어요. 'Seoul has changed a lot these days'.
• 스티브는술을많이마시면얼굴이빨개져요.'When Steve drinks a lot, his face turns red.'
