GROW/MOVE/CHANGE
On January 11 and 12 at 7:30 p. m., the Department of Kinesiology with the Department of Theatre and Drama will premiere “GROW/MOVE/CHANGE,” a showcase of innovative, cutting-edge modern dance at the Ruth N. Halls Theatre. Named in part for the 60 th Anniversary of the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation, the program will celebrate growth, movement, and change in the field of the arts.
Commissioned by the School of Health , Physical Education, and Recreation, IU Contemporary Dance faculty members Elizabeth Shea, Laura Poole, and Gwen Hamm with African American Dance Company Director Iris Rosa have each created new works to celebrate the 60 th anniversary of the school. Shea will present Grow/Move/Change, a collaboration with composer Jeff Hass, which pushes artistic and creative boundaries with an innovative electronic score and video projection gleaned from live video-feed of the dancers themselves. Poole will premiere Revolution, which is concerned with the cyclical nature of change and its various stages. Hamm 's piece, titled Looking Back, will utilize live music as it focuses on revolutionary leaders and their impact on society. Rosa's piece deals with people of African descent in the Caribbean. |

Two guest artists have contributed to the concert. A three-week residency by New York-based choreographer Ben Munisteri, sponsored by a New Frontiers in the Arts and Humanities grant, yielded a setting on IU modern dance majors of his abstract work Muse of Fire . In addition, internationally renowned dancer and choreographer Bill Evans, also the former dance major program coordinator, has set the hauntingly beautiful Rite of Summer. IU Theatre and Drama professor, George Pinney, will premiere a bold new work utilizing cutting-edge technology that examines issues of self-identity and truth revealed by light. Tickets are $16 for adults and $13 for students, seniors, and children under 12. Rush tickets will be available to IUB students with valid university ID thirty minutes before the performance. Tickets may be purchased at the IU Auditorium box office between the hours of 10 a. m. and 5 p. m. and online at www.ticketmaster.com. |
