Your individual success matters at IU. U.S. News & World Report has repeatedly recognized IU for outstanding freshman programs and residential learning communities. Those along with our advising and academic support programs are part of IU's successful formula for starting college.

If you’re an incoming freshman or transfer student, you’ll meet with an academic advisor during New Student Orientation, and from then on, you’ll always have an advisor in your residential neighborhood, University Division, or the school your major is in. Your advisor can help you explore your interests, choose a major, select your courses, and steadily move toward graduation.

International graduate students also have advisors—often in their academic departments—and all international students can get educational and social assistance from the Office of International Services.

Support Programs and Services

Academic advisors are just the beginning of IU Bloomington’s extensive support network, which includes:

• Academic Support Centers offer tutoring and workshops at three campus locations
• Career services offices throughout campus
• Disability Services for Students ensures the accessibility of IU programs and services
• Groups Student Support Services, for first-generation and low-income students and students with disabilities
• Health Professions and Prelaw Center, for students preparing to study law, medicine, and other health professions
• University Division advises freshman, continuing, and preprofessional students
• Writing Tutorial Services offers one-on-one sessions about writing assignments
