INDIANA UNIVERSITY
CISCO NETWORKING ACADEMY

You may have questions regarding the IU-Cisco Network Academy (IU-CCNA) Evaluation Project. Below are some of the most common questions regarding this project. If you cannot find an answer to your question, please contact us: iucisco@indiana.edu.

Q:
Are all Cisco Academies included in the IU-CCNA Project?
A:

Yes, all CCNA Academies world-wide are included. All CCNA students may complete the CCNA Student Surveys, and all CCNA instructors may complete the Instructor Survey.

Q:
Is the project focusing only on CCNA students?
A:

This project focuses on CCNA students, but it also includes data from non-CCNA/non-Cisco students for comparison.

Q:
Will data be collected from CCNA instructors?
A:

Yes, all CCNA instructors (world-wide) are asked to complete an online Instructors Survey. Some instructors will also be asked to take part in  follow-up interviews. CCNA instructors may access the Instructors Survey from a link on their Cisco Homepage.

Q:
When will this evaluation project be finished?
A:

We anticipate the project will be completed by December 2007.

Q:
Are students paid to complete the Student Surveys?
A:

Non-CCNA students attending academies participating in the IU-Cisco Networking Academy Evaluation Project receive $10 for each student survey they complete.

Cisco students are not paid to complete the CCNA1 survey because of an agreement with Cisco. However, CCNA students qualify for a $10 check when they take the CCNA2 Student Survey, the CCNA3 Student Survey, and/or the CCNA4 Student Survey (for a potential total of $30) if they:

  1. Attend an Academy that is participating in the IU-CCNA Networking Academy Evaluation Project and were enrolled in CCNA1 during the fall of 2004,
  2. Complete all pages of the CCNA Student Survey , and
  3. Provide their mailing information on the last page of the CCNA Student Survey .

Students access the CCNA Student Surveys from a link on the Cisco homepage. The link will show in the left and right navigation when the students are between 50 – 130% through each course.

If you have questions about which students receive compensation for completing which survey, contact the Project Manager, JoAnne C. Bunnage.

Q: Why are CCNA1 students not paid to complete the CCNA1 Student Survey?
A:

Cisco policies prevent researchers from paying CCNA students to complete the CCNA1 Student survey. Surveys are considered part of regular course evaluation procedures.

When CCNA students complete the CCNA2,CCNA3, and CCNA4 Student Surveys, they have the opportunity to provide researchers at Indiana University their mailing information. This information is gathered through a server hosted at Indiana University, rather than Cisco.

Q:
What are the differences between what the CCNA students are doing for this project and what the comparison group students are doing?
A:

The CCNA students are asked to complete four Student surveys in addition to a Six-month Follow-up survey. Comparison group students complete an Entry survey, Exit survey and a six-month follow-up survey.

Q:
How can CCNA students find the surveys?
A:

CCNA students may access each survey through their Cisco Academy Connection student home page. The alerts regarding each survey are listed on the left-hand side and right-hand side of the web page. To see a picture of these 'alerts', click here .
