A Time of Need

The IU-Cisco team joins the entire county in offering our thoughts and support for the victims of Hurricane Katrina.
In a time of such crisis such as this, it is positive and helpful to focus on what can be done on an individual basis to offer support to those in great need.  Some of the links listed below specifically assist those affected by Katrina while others are charitable organizations -- household names, if you will -- that have been around for decades.  Some of us are able to make financial contributions and others give their time and energy.  No task is too small or meaningless!  Whether your donation consists of a car or canned goods, it ALL benefits those in need.  If you have the means, please support those in need.

IU-Cisco Staff Members

Liz, JoAnne, and Emily thank you for your participation!  We appreciate your persistence and are glad you are part of the IU-Cisco Study.  Please let us know if you have questions or concerns.

We Need Your Continued Involvement!

We’d like to thank you for your participation in the IU-Cisco CCNA Networking Academy Evaluation and remind you of a few things as you enter a new school year:

  1. As your students progress on through the CCNA Program they have the opportunity to continue taking the CCNA Student Surveys,
  2. Links to the CCNA Student Surveys are located on both the right and left navigation bars of the students’ Cisco homepage;
  3. Qualified students are paid $10 by IU when they complete the CCNA Student Survey and provide their contact information.

Please continue to encourage your students to take the CCNA Student Surveys!

     Key members of the IU-Cisco team have been analyzing data collected from the IU-Cisco Study.  Their paper entitled Student Achievement in the Cisco Networking Academy: Performance in the CCNA1 Course provides a summary of the One-Year Study to date.  It examines the student, program delivery and school factors that influenced student achievement in the Cisco Networking Academy. The Academy uses the Internet to distribute a centrally developed curriculum and standards-based online testing, and combines that with local instructors who teach classes to students. This study, conducted with 10,371 students at 1,651 schools, found that individual student ability, gender, age, and motivation were the most important influences on student achievement. They concluded that the combination of centralized curriculum, standards-based testing, and local instruction worked equally well in a variety of environments and enabled students to reach their own potential.

     Table 1 displays the statistics collected from the registration data and the intake survey completed by each student participant.  It is divided into three main areas: Student Descriptive Statistics, Program Delivery Descriptive Statistics, and School Descriptive Statistics.  The registration data recorded general student information.  More specific information such as age, educational status, problem solving skills, career goals, GPA, and computer skills were collected  the through intake survey.  Based upon this information students were classified into age groups reflecting the three major age groups in the program: high school students, college and university students, and non-traditional students. The student’s formal degree program status clarified those students enrolled in no degree, diploma, or certificate programs.  The additional information found under School Descriptive Statistics was gathered from the Cisco, NCES, and HUD databases.

             The above data reflects a portion of the preliminary analysis of the IU-Cisco Study.   If you are interested in reading the accompanying document please click the underlined link or visit the publications section of the IU-Cisco webpage http://www.indiana.edu/~iuteam/webdesign/
