Welcome to Indiana University
from the Outreach Co-Chairs

Greetings from Bloomington, home of the Indiana University Hoosiers! On behalf of everyone with the Higher Education & Student Affairs (HESA) program at IU, we are excited to be a part of your graduate program search. We know that the process can be complex and even overwhelming, but we are confident that you will enjoy your experience and find it worth the effort. Please explore this website to find out more about the outreach process and assistantship opportunities available to you for the coming year. In addition, don’t hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have as you go along!

Each year, the Indiana University Student Personnel Association (IUSPA) hosts two Outreach weekends for prospective students. The weekends for 2012 are February 9-11 and February 16-18. Both Outreach 2012 weekends will begin on Thursday morning and end by Saturday afternoon. The purpose of Outreach is to not only assist prospective students in securing an assistantship, but to also orient you to the IU HESA program and community. During your visit, you will interview for assistantships and complete your faculty interview, as well as have numerous opportunities to visit with faculty, staff, and current students. We are currently working to provide housing for prospective students, so be continue to check the website for more information regarding accommodations.

Please be aware that in addition to academic acceptance, you must interview for and secure an assistantship position for Fall 2012 to gain full HESA acceptance. While we are happy to provide assistance, this task will require a proactive effort on your part. It is appropriate to email assistantship providers to make an initial contact. You will soon be sent a list of anticipated assistantship sites as a starting point for your search, and more information about the assistantship interview process will be made available in the spring.

We encourage you to review the IUSPA website for the latest Outreach 2012 information. We are here to help, and we are excited to share our experiences and advice with you, as well as answer any questions you may have. We wish you the very best in choosing a graduate program, and we hope to see you in February 2012!

Best Wishes,
Jake Dawes & Kyla King, IUSPA Outreach Co-Chairs
