Kelly Jo
Baute-Pfaffenberger,
MS has worked in the fitness industry for over 14 years and is certified by the
American Council on Exercise. Kelly received her BS from
Indiana University in Exercise Science and recently completed her Master’s of
Science in Applied Sport Science and is working on a doctoral degree in
Kinesiology with minors in Bio-Anthropology and Public Health. In her career
Kelly has developed and coordinated a Fitness/Wellness program for a community
hospital and has worked as a Fitness Director for a private Health and Fitness
Club. Kelly has taught all formats of group exercise and especially enjoys
water exercise!
Sara Herold
has been inspiring people to lead healthy lives through the YMCA for 20 years,
teaching a variety of aquatic classes including Water Fitness, Arthritis
Aquatics, Prenatal Water Fitness, and Prime Time Water Fitness. She is currently
certified through the YMCA as a Water Fitness Instructor Trainer and Instructor,
and is credentialed to work with the Active Older Adults program. In her YMCA
career Sara was also held certifications as a lifeguard, an Arthritis Aquatics
Instructor and Principals and Practices of Exercise practitioner. Sara holds a
B.A. degree from Indiana University and is looking forward to her third summer
of teaching at the IU Outdoor Pool.
Colleen
McCracken
started her water fitness practice as a competitive swimmer on the IU varsity
women’s swim team back in 1999. As an accomplished competitor Colleen helped
lead the Hoosiers to become the 2003 Big Ten Champions. Colleen has been
involved in group fitness since 2003 and has taught various formats such as
indoor cycling, trekking, strength training and is recently completed her yoga
teacher certification. Colleen is pursuing her doctorate in Human Performance,
specializing in Exercise physiology with minor in gerontology. Colleen's
research focuses on cognition and aging, and exercise effects. Colleen is
certified through the American Council on Exercise and is returning for her
fifth summer of water fitness fun at the IU Outdoor Pool.
Tatiana
Kolovou
has over 22 years of experience in the health and fitness industry as a fitness manager, national presenter and coach. She conducts workshops and lectures at national conferences across the United States and has presented in 15 countries around the world. Her education includes a BS in Exercise Science and a Masters in Business Administration. She is certified by the American Council on Exercise for whom she is also a continuing education provider, and the American College of Sports Medicine. Tatiana is a master trainer The Stairmaster fitness brands that designs the popular Schwinn indoor cycles.
Together with Carol Kennedy, Tatiana started the water fitness programs at the IU Outdoor Pool and is delighted to come back for another great summer in 2011.
Carol Kennedy-Armbruster, M.S. is a Senior Lecturer within the Department of Kinesiology at Indiana University, Bloomington. She has worked in both the private and university setting during her 30 years in the fitness/wellness industry as an educator and supervisor of fitness staff. She has taught/created academic courses on group leadership, personal training, and fitness management and produced books and DVD’s on group exercise, water exercise and functional exercise progressions. Her master’s thesis was on water exercise. She has presented both nationally and internationally on various fitness/wellness topics and is certified by ACE as a Group Exercise Instructor & ACSM as a Health Fitness Specialist.
Mindy Hightower King, Ph.D. has been teaching group exercise classes for 22 years and is certified by the American College of Sports Medicine. Mindy received her Ph.D. in Health Psychology from the University of California, Irvine and studied the psychophysiological effects of exercise on blood pressure and mood. She now works for the Indiana University School of Education to evaluate school-based education and health interventions Mindy also teachers indoor cycling and deep water running classes at the YMCA. She enjoys cycling on the beautiful country roads in and around Bloomington, swimming with the IU Masters team, and running with good friends, and teaching her two children to lead active lives.
Walter Kyles Walter Kyles is delighted to be teaching water fitness this summer and be a part of such an amazing line of instructors at the IU Outdoor pool. His fitness experience and knowledge is vast and includes participation as a competition body builder. Walter is blessed with the gift of athleticism and has been a participant in team sport all of his life activities including football, wrestling, and track and field. He began his professional fitness career in 2003 as a group fitness instructor at the Bloomington Adult Community Center - BACC - (Bloomington Parks and Recreation), where he taught step aerobics and group strength training. During his 6 year tenure at the BACC, he had an opportunity to teach people of all ages and fitness levels. These professional experiences combined with Walter's ability to teach effectively, have allowed him to be sensitive to the needs of his students and clients, thereby allowing him to be an effective and motivating instructor and trainer.
Walter holds instructor certification through the Monroe County YMCA of the USA and regularly leads Boot Camp and group strength training sessions. Additionally, he is one of the assistant coaches for the Triathlon Kids summer camp at the YMCA for the second year in a row.
Mr. Kyles recently completed his Schwinn Indoor Cycling certification. Later this summer, he will sit for his Certified Personal Fitness examination (through American Council on Exercise). Walter is also pursuing a degree in Exercise Science at Indiana University, Bloomington through the School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER).
Walter lives and breathes fitness and believes that water exercise is at the top of the fitness chain! He has been blessed to be trained by fitness experts Carol Kennedy and Tatiana Kolovou. He intends to pass the gift of fitness on to others for years to come.
