Applications are now being accepted for the Summer 2011 season at the IU Outdoor Pool for the following positions:

Lifeguard

- Must hold current American Red Cross Lifeguard, First Aid, CPR and AED certifications.
- Must be at least 15 years of age.

Swim Lesson Instructor

- Must hold current American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor certification.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.

Please list your Red Cross certifications and expiration dates under “special skills/foreign languages/certifications/licenses on page 2 of the application. Photo copies of your certification cards must also accompany your application.

Job Descriptions:

Lifeguard

  • Provide a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment for all patrons.
  • Provide a positive public image at all times with respect to your position as a lifeguard and as an employee of Indiana University
  • Act as a professional at all times by displaying the appropriate levels of reliability, tact, and emotional maturity and stability
  • Be fair and consistent when enforcing facility policies
  • Know all facility emergency procedures and policies
  • Be able to answer question about facility operation upon patron request
  • Perform maintenance duties that are requested by management
  • Report any problems or concerns to the appropriate level of management.
  • Maintain proper dress code while on duty
  • Attend all staff meetings and training sessions
  • Keep calm and use good judgment in times of stress, never use improper language or physical force when dealing with the public or co-workers
  • Maintain a level of fitness commensurate with life guarding responsibilities.
Instructor
  • Provide a safe, organized, and enjoyable environment for all students
  • Teach according to the skill progression set by the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Course
  • Be prepared for each lesson with appropriate materials
  • Be early for class times and be willing to stay after to answer parent questions
  • Act as a life guard as well as an instructor for students
  • Provide a rich and meaningful learning experience at all time
  • Provide age appropriate comments and teaching methods
