Service/Outreach Projects

    2000-Present Volunteer, Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Bloomington, Indiana - Engaging in group and one-one-interaction with generally underserved youth populations. Implementing service-learning component in F203, requiring undergraduate students to fulfill 12 hours of service at the Boys’ and Girls’ Club.

    1999-Present Mentor in the “Friends Learn with Me” Program, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Bloomington, Indiana - Useful in providing a positive male role model to a third-grade African-American student. Structuring interactive games as a way to teach mathematics and language arts.

Honors/Awards

    2000 – Present Dean’s Minority Fellowship, Indiana University - This honor is given by the University Graduate School to top minority graduate students based on academic achievement.

    2002 Outstanding Associate Instructor Award, Indiana University - Two associate instructors are chosen annually by faculty from the counseling and educational psychology department on the basis of excellence in teaching.

    1999 Marshall Hallock Brenner Prize, Kalamazoo College - The psychology department faculty selects one student whose work reflects excellence within and outside of the academic setting.

    1999 George Acker Award, Kalamazoo College - Members of the physical education department honor one student-athlete annually who demonstrates superior leadership abilities and enthusiasm.
