Professional Experience

1994-Present Director, Early Childhood Center, Indiana Institute on Disability and Community, Indiana University-Bloomington. In collaboration with my staff, I am responsible for identifying and carrying out short and long-term initiatives that promote best practices in the care and education of young children with disabilities and their families throughout Indiana. I am responsible for supervising 10 staff and managing an annual budget of approximately $500,000.
1989-1993 Supervisor, Early Childhood Special Education (Section 619), Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction, State of Washington, Olympia, WA. I was responsible for overseeing the statewide implementation of early childhood special education services and managing an annual budget of approximately $2.5 million. In this position, I worked with a team of regional consultants to develop, implement, and evaluate statewide initiatives for improving services for preschoolers with disabilities. I worked with numerous agencies, boards, and professional organizations to collaboratively carry out these initiatives.
1985-1989 Coordinator and Visiting Assistant Professor, Early Childhood Special Education Programs, Center for Developmental Disabilities, University of Vermont, Burlington, VT. This position was created through a partnership of the University and State Department of Education to support the development and implementation of local and state early intervention systems for young children and their families. I also was implemented a master's degree program in this same area. I was responsible for writing numerous documents for practitioners, serving on/leading statewide task forces for guiding the development of state position papers and documents, and providing workshops throughout the state.
1982-1984 Assistant Professor, Departments of Early Childhood and Special Education, University of North Dakota, Grand Forks, ND. I was a professor who was responsible for the master's degree program that blended two separate but related departments in the School of Education.
1977-1980 Classroom Teacher and Home Visitor/Early Interventionist Program PREPARE, Developmental Training Center, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN and Madison, Wisconsin. Preschool teacher and home-based family educator of children, birth to 5 years, with disabilities and their families.

    2000 - present Research and Training Center on Service Coordination, subcontract to implement a federally-funded, multi-state, research project within Indiana. University of Connecticut Health Center. $50,000/year.

    1999 - 2003 Healthy Child Care Indiana, federal grant conducted in partnership with The Indiana Parent Information Network, Inc., A Health Systems Development in Child Care Grant. $164,400.

    1999 - present Indiana Family and Social Services Administration, Research grant to develop a Statewide Evaluation System for Indiana's First Steps Early Intervention System. $121,000.

    1999 - 2000 Parent-Professional Conference, training grant to organize and host a conference for families in First Steps in concert with the state Early Childhood Conference. Governor's Interagency Coordinating Council. $10,000.
