The role of safety in group counseling: The integration and application of group leader roles and self-efficacy theory. Sponsor: Rex Stockton.

    Presenter, The Association for Specialists in Group Work, St. Petersburg, Florida, January 4th, 2002. I presented at this conference as part of a symposium on technology and group work. My presentation was entitled Group Dynamics and Online Instruction. Sponsor: Rex Stockton.

Research Areas

    Research Team Member, Indiana University, Department of Counseling and Educational Psychology, January 2000-present. Duties: This team generates research publications in the area of group work. We concentrate on the training of group leaders as well as the conditions needed for therapeutic change. Currently, I am addressing the role of psychological safety in groups as well as the occurrence of transferring of learning of in-group skills and goals to out-group progress and change after termination. This research team is lead by Professor Rex Stockton, 10 hours weekly.

Service/Outreach Projects

    Student Team Member, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, November 2001-present. Duties: Indiana University searched for and found a tenure track assistant professor, and for this search I have volunteered to represent the doctoral students. This involved taking part in the recruitment and interviewing process, 10 hours monthly.

    Assistant to the Director, 38th Annual Paul Munger Summer Conference, Bloomington, Indiana, May 2001-August 2001. Duties: This annual Conference is designed for school counselors, mental health counselors, teachers, social workers and other professionals in the field. As the assistant to the Director of the Conference, I coordinated and planned various aspects of the Conference including the organization of the event itself, the completion of the program, as well as contacting and informing the participants, presenters and exhibiters about pertinent Conference information. Director: Professor Rex Stockton, 20 hours weekly.

    Assistant, American Psychological Association Program: Division 49, Bloomington, Indiana, January 2001. Duties: This opportunity involved assisting Professor Rex Stockton in designing and coordinating the program for the APA 2001 conference. Specifically, the program for Division 49, Group Counseling, was organized. Supervisor: Professor Rex Stockton, 30 hours total.

    Chairperson, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, August 2000-December 2000. Duties: As chairperson, I managed and coordinated a film project about the Counseling/Counselor Education MS program at Indiana University using digital equipment for both the filming and editing processes. Supervisor: Professor Marianne Mitchell, 5-10 hours weekly.

    Staff Member, The Paul Munger Conference, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, July 2000. Duties: Professor Rex Stockton coordinated this conference for Counselors as well as Counselor Educators. Here, I facilitated group discussions, coordinated events at the conference, and assisted Professor Stockton with the organization of this conference.

    A Presentation for the class, G550, Internship in Counseling. This presentation was based on specific training that I received in CBT for depressive disorders at The Center for Behavioral Health, July 2000.

    Student Representative, Indiana University, Bloomington, Indiana, May 2000-August 2001. Duties: In this position, I represent the concerns and needs of the MS students in counseling at faculty meetings, and I also provide the minutes of the meetings to the students, 5 hours monthly.

    Two Brochures, one about depression, the second about domestic violence, completed during my practicum experience for The Center for Human Growth, May 2000.

    Crisis Line Volunteer, Middle Way Shelter for Women, Bloomington, Indiana, August 1999-December 1999. Duties: Occupational responsibilities involved working with women in crisis both on the telephone and in person that were in need of shelter or support. Supervisor: Amy Woods, M.S., 10 hours weekly.
