Manuscript Length

Submitted work should not exceed 11,000 words. When submitted it should be double-spaced, in a 12-inch font (12 point) and reasonable margins (one inch or more). It must include an abstract of about 150 words. Manuscripts will be accepted for review on the understanding that their content is original and that the manuscript has not been accepted for publication or under review elsewhere.

Submitting a Manuscript

Original manuscripts that fall within the aims and scope of the International Studies Quarterly may be submitted in three ways. The preferred means to submit manuscripts is electronic, using the functions designed allow you to submit manuscripts on our webpage.

The menu driven submission page is designed to be self-explanatory to the experienced internet users. You will be asked to upload your manuscript in two separate files, into two different fields. One file should have all self-identifying references and language removed, no acknowledgement, and a title page without authors' names or affiliations. The second file should include such information. All files should contain an abstract of about 150 words. We accept manuscripts in Microsoft Word 97-2003.

Using our menu-driven submission format, you may also include a message, or if you prefer the customary formal letter that communicates directly to the editors, by cutting and pasting text into the appropriate field. Finally, you will be asked to respond to some questions to help us classify the submission for our annual report to the Association. Your answers to these questions will have no bearing on our handling of the manuscript.

All manuscripts received by us will be acknowledged with a short e-mail message, giving you a manuscript number to use in your other communications with us, regarding your manuscript. If you do not receive such an acknowledgement within a couple days (except around holidays, when it might take a few days longer), you should assume that we did not receive your manuscript, and try again.

Alternate Means of Submission

If you have trouble with the submission device on our webpage, please let us know immediately, by contacting us at intstudq@indiana.edu. In the event of unforeseen problems, either on your end or ours, we will gladly accept your submissions via e-mail at that address.

Finally, should someone not have the ability or desire to send digital copies they may still mail hardcopies to William R. Thompson, International Studies Quarterly, Political Science Department, 210 Woodburn Hall, 1100 E. 7th St, Indiana University, Bloomington, IN 47405, USA. Four of the five copies of your manuscript should have all self-identifying references and language removed.
