Before Testing
We would appreciate your efforts in presenting the IUHFPL Program to eligible students using the bookmarks, video and posters that have been sent to your school. On our Web site you will find additional information, a downloadable factsheet about the Program, a comparison of the IUHPFL with other study abroad programs and our new video. Please let us know if you did not receive bookmarks and posters or if you need additional copies.
On the IUHPFL Web site under the tab for high schools and teachers, you will find ideas on how to promote the Program to students, parents and teachers, as well as gain a better understanding of the IUHPFL. Please remind students that the Program is highly selective, thus every stage of the selection process through which students successfully pass is a feat in and of itself and should be celebrated.
Promoting the Program
- Former Program participants will be of great help in presenting the Program. If you have any alumni that attend your school, encourage them to present the Program not only to classes in their own language, but also to those of other foreign language teachers.
- When promoting the IUHPFL Program, we ask that you emphasize the following aspects of the Program to prospective participants: the Program’s academic focus, the Honor Code and Language Commitment, the host family experience, and the fact that the experience is engaging (and demanding) on every level.
- We are looking for honors students who are academically motivated and who also demonstrate the social and emotional maturity needed to succeed abroad. Please encourage such students to apply. Students showing strong interest in the Program should be encouraged to fundraise and save money right away.
