Being apart of the accounting committee, money is our main focus. This year we have the new responsibility of finding foundation support for IU Dance Marathon and the kids at Riley Hospital for Children. All over the country there are thousands of groups searching for a good cause to donate to and it's our job to show them that Riley is it! This year's committee is looking for individuals that are enthusiastic, dedicated, fun-loving, professional, and will love working for the kids. Each year's Dance Marathon team makes its own mark on the traditions here at IU, and we want you to be a part of it!

Alumni Relations

Support from the IUDM alumni is an essential part of Dance Marathon. The alumni not only help guide the Dance Marathon Council, but they also provide an excellent source for general advice. Therefore it is important to keep and update a database which holds all the current locations of our wonderful alumni. This year's committee will be working hard to keep the alumni informed of special events on and off campus, as well as providing them with general IUDM updates.

Also, even though the alumni are very willing to continue to support Riley Hospital for Children, it is our committee's job to organize fundraisers that will keep the alumni in touch with each other and Dance Marathon. The alumni relations committee is looking for creative people to help assemble alumni newsletters as well as plan the 2003 alumni reception banquet. If you think contacting alumni, working with databases, and planning events is right up your alley... then alumni relations is definitely the committee for you!

Catering

One of the most important parts of the marathon is making sure that everyone has not only something to eat, but actually enough to eat! The catering committee's responsibility if to contact sponsors and solicit donations from local and regional food corporations in order to provide food for the 36-hour marathon.

As a catering chair you will work to find new sponsors and re-establish relationships with previous donors to ensure that the food being donated in congruent with our committee's menu.

This position is a lot of fun and will allow to not only make future connections through the people you will be working with, but it will also keep you busy during the marathon. Being a part of the catering committee is a very fulfilling and exciting job. We are looking for people who have the ability to speak professionally and who are not afraid of rejection!

Corporate Relations

Contact : Arielle Morrison ( ) | View current members

The corporate relations team is central to the success of the IU Dance Marathon. Our goal is to raise enough money and product donations to cover the entire operating budget of the marathon. This ensures that every penny raised really will go directly to the children at Riley Hospital. We will develop a comprehensive marketing packet, make personal presentations to national corporations and local businesses, work closely with corporate sponsors to develop advertisements and promotions, and develop and implement new ideas to tap new resources. We need chairpersons who have good business sense and are outgoing, creative, dependable, professional, confident, hard working, and enthusiastic!

Dancer Relations

Contact : Diana Carlson ( ) | View current members

The dancer relations committee will be dedicated to registering the best group of dancers the marathon has ever seen. This is a very important job as many of this year's dancers will most likely go on to be chairs or even directors – therefore making them the future of Dance Marathon. As a committee member you will be responsible for helping plan and run the spring and fall dancer call-outs, communicating with the DGR's, and actually registering dancers for the marathon. Other jobs include: working the registration table at the marathon and keeping track of spirit points.

To be on this committee you must have good communication skills and enjoy working closely with others. These skills are necessary for this position because of the need for constant communication between the IUDM council, the DGR's, and the dancers. Also, any skills you might have working the Microsoft Access would be greatly beneficial to this committee. So, if you're interested in making sure the Marathon has the most dedicated group of dancers ever — and a successful future — then the dancer relations committee is the place for you!

This year's entertainment committee will be working to bring incredible bands to the marathon stage. We will be looking for local, regional, and national acts to entertain our dancers for 36-hours. This year's committee will also be recruiting alternative acts, such as the Redsteppers, to perform at the marathon. The entertainment committee is seeking dedicated, persistent people who will be responsible for establishing and maintaining contacts within the music world. As the marathon continues to grow in popularity, and the recognition of the talent increases, the entertainment committee will be finding itself right smack in the middle of organizing the biggest party on campus … do you want to miss out on that??

As a brand new position on the IUDM executive council, the 2006 director of event coordinating will be responsible for defining many elements of the new position. Responsibilities include working closely with the high school Mini-Marathons around the state and serving as a liaison between their councils and the IU executive council. Work with the various schools includes close contact with their adult supervisors and access to any resources our council may have. In addition to working with high schools, the director of event coordinating will serve as a leader in construction and execution of the Annual IUDM Golf Outing. Availability to work in Indianapolis over the summer is a vital part of this position. With the excitement of defining a new position on the executive council, we are looking for a dedicated individual with strong interpersonal skills, capable of organizing and facilitating a brand new committee.

Money is obviously a huge part of the focus of the fundraising committee. We, as a team, will be responsible for organizing new fundraising events and working hard to raise as much money as possible for the kids at Riley Hospital for Children. This year's committee is looking for individuals that are motivated, hard working, fun loving, and dedicated to the children at Riley Hospital. The Dance Marathon is going to have an exciting year and I challenge you to become a part of one of the most rewarding experiences of your life.

Morale

Through motivation, determination, and just plain craziness, this committee helps dancers realize the true meaning of the marathon. Whether it is teaching the 600 dancers the 10-minute long line dance, showing off our awesome costumes during theme hours, or just pumping everyone up through our sweet tie-dye shirts that have our nicknames on the back, Morale never has a dull moment. All of the games that are being played throughout the marathon are designed and put on by morale. It's an amazing committee and as they always say "Once morale, always morale."

Operations

Contact : Tim Day ( ) | View current members

If you've been to the marathon before, you may have noticed the pink-shirted-walkie-talkie-wearing Ops committee. That's right, Ops is the only committee lucky enough and cool enough to get pink shirts or walkie-talkies, and these are the cool walkie-talkies with ear bud headphones and dangle microphones.

Ops is one of the most important "behind the scenes" committees that you might never hear about - so listen (read) up. Akin to being a badass NFL lineman, Ops doesn't always get the most recognition, but at the same time is one of the most essential ingredients to a successful marathon. We work hard throughout the year, contacting corporate sponsors and working with university officials, to ensure that all facilities and materials needed to run the marathon and other DM sponsored events are secured prior to the big day. We plan the layout and security arrangements, and are in charge of the Mass Member Program, a group of about 200 student volunteers who make shorter commitments to helping out at the marathon. Security is the name of hte game during the marathon itself, as we work to keep the dancers in and keep the drunks out. Finally, we also coordinate the set-up and tear-down of the marathon.

We need hard-working chairpersons who are professional, organized, and can communicate well. If this sounds like you, make it an "Ops" job and get out here!

Promotions

If you like to design flyers and ads to distribute to IU students and the Bloomington community then Promotions is for you! The promotions committee uses their imagination to create and organize Homecoming festivities, "Mail Hour", blitzing opportunities and promotional schemes to get the residence halls more involved. We also get to decorate banners, signs, and pretty much anything that will stand still long enough for us to put the IUDM logo on it! Last but not least, the promotions committee works diligently with the local schools to raise awareness for Dance Marathon and Riley Hospital for Children. Just remember, it's for the kids!!!!

Public Relations

The role of the 2004 public relations committee is to get the entire community, campus, state, and nation involved in supporting our efforts to help the children at Riley Hospital. Some of our direct jobs will be to: design the IUDM t-shirt, compose a press packet, create the IUDM video, contact news and radio stations around the state, and assist the Promotions committee to making sure there is not a single person in the state of Indiana that has never heard of the IU Dance Marathon. The PR committee is looking for creative, hard-working, and energetic individuals that possess excellent writing and design skills.

Riley Development

Riley development works in coordination with the hospital to bring dancers and chairs closer to the realities of Riley Hospital. The committee's main objectives are to host the Riley families at the marathon, plan inpatient parties during the school year, plan outpatient events during the summer, coordinate hospital tours for chairs and dancers, and educate chairs about Riley, IUDM, and Ryan White. Along with all of these duties, this committee is geared to raising abundant amounts of money for Riley Hospital for Children.

Special Events

This will require creative, organized, fun people! So if you are a person that loves to make things happen and have a lot of fun in the process, then this is the perfect committee for you!

Technology

The technology committee will also create IUDM council directories and work with the PR, promotions, and alumni relations committees to get the word out about Dance Marathon. Also, at the marathon we are in charge of the slideshow that is played for everyone at the end of the 36 hour fest. If you are interested in working with web design, taking pictures, and most of all, fundraising, then the technology committee is the perfect place for you!
