Where do you like to study? What's your favorite place?

We asked some Honors College students what locations around campus provide good spots for studying. Here's what they had to say.

I usually study in the honors lounge (in the Honors Residential Community in Forest). There are comfortable couches in there, and it's convenient; my room is right down the hall. But sometimes when it's late a night, a lot of people come down, so there's a point where you have to decide to go back to your room.
—Paul Sutphan, '05, Cincinnati, Ohio, business/finance major

If there aren't many people in my dorm lounge, it's a good place to study. But if there are a lot of people, I can't get much done. It's fun, though. The other day, I was studying in the honors lounge, and a marshmallow fight broke out.
—Kieran Farr, '04, Indianapolis, exploratory

If it's rainy out, I like the IMU gallery, but my favorite places are the balcony outside of the Union and the bridge over the Jordan outside Kiva. I like the bridge because it's beautiful there, and I like the balcony because it's usually empty and it's outside. There are minimal distractions.
—Libby Werner, '04, St. Louis, Missouri, history and German major

I like to study on the benches by the fountain in front of the music school because it's really relaxing with the water right there.
—Amy Sheldrake, '04, Indianapolis, German major

I like sitting by the trees, enjoying nature, or going to the music library, which has lots of spaces for study.
—Thade Correa, '05, Hammond, music performance major

I like studying around the trees and brook near Ballantine in between classes. If you find the right spot, it can be a nice place to go.
—Krissy Wynkoop, '04, Schererville, journalism major

I like to study in the quiet room with the comfy chairs by the IMUG in the Union. It's the quietest place in the Union that I've found.
—John Zaborske, '03, Schererville, biochemistry major

My favorite places to study would be Dunn Meadow or the Arboretum. It's just nice to be outside.
—Ellen Bloom, '04, Ft. Wayne, social work major

The Collins lounge is a great place to study because there are always great people around and great things to do when you're done working.
—James Bourke, '04, Indianapolis, economics and political science major

The fine arts library is one of my favorite places. I just like the shape of the building and the room, and it's very quiet in there. I also study in the music library.
—Randolph Johnson, '03, Auburn, music performance

I like to study in that little stone square outside Ballantine between the first and second flights of steps because it's quiet and there's fresh air. And there are plants around so it's kind of peaceful.
—Jacob Fulk, '05, Normal, Illinois, religious studies major

In nice weather, people go out to the lawn between Forest and Read and sunbathe or study.
—Rosemary Meacham-Zittel, '04, Norman, Oklahoma, business major

If I need to go somewhere quiet, the political science library (in Woodburn Hall) is pretty nice. It has a high ceiling and big windows. It's really spacious but you can still go in there and feel like you can be by yourself, but you're not cramped.
—Sarah Childress, '03, Bloomington, piano and political science major

When I need quiet and relative solitude, in front of the computer lab here in Forest, there's three couches. No one's ever there. It's space away from my food and email and games.
—Melissa Blake, '03, Spotsylvania, Virginia, biology major
