A Special Message from the Associate Dean

Dear Honors College Students,

I hope that all of you will work each day to make our campus, our town, our state and our nation a refuge from intolerance, prejudice and hate. In particular, I would urge you, whenever possible, to extend a kind and helping hand to those Indiana University students or Bloomington residents who are afraid to leave their homes.

Our country has stood in its best moments as a haven for people seeking liberty and justice, opportunity and safety. To allow our anger and grief in this moment of horror to result in injury to the innocent would betray our own highest and best principles. We must try to help each other react to this national tragedy in ways that are rational, fair and constructive. We must reflect with care upon what has happened, trying to understand the causes, and trying to find an appropriate response. It is our task, after all, to build a better world.
