Essay Guidelines:
In 750-1000 words, discuss an experience or experiences you had while abroad. Your essay should be based upon your reflections of what you have seen and learned while abroad. Please write something original and interesting! We are open to new ideas and different genres as long as the work is well-considered and well-written. For some ideas and inspiration take a look at some sample essays. Compose your essay in Word format (.doc or .docx) and send it via e-mail as an attachment to hiep[at]indiana[dot]edu

Photo Guidelines:
Submit one photograph in JPEG format (.jpg) of yourself taken during your trip at a landmark in IU gear (IU shirts, hats, etc), or with friends you are traveling with or whom you've met during your travels, or of you with your host family, or of anything discussed in your essay. Please re-name your photo(s) with a descriptive yet brief caption!(ie. instead of the default "IMG_012345" rename it to something descriptive like "enjoying a cup of hot chocolate at the South Pole, Antarctica").* Send your picture in JPEG format (.jpg) via e-mail as an attachment to hiep[at]indiana[dot]edu You may also embed your photo within your essay if you wish, but be sure to send a JPEG version of it as well.
*note: to re-name your photo: 1) click on your photo icon once to highlight it; 2) press the F2 key; 3) start typing*

FEATURED ON HIEP's POSTCARDS

"Bridge to Nature" by C. Ma
We took a ferry in Dresden, Germany down the Elbe River to climb the Sandstone Mountains, which is where this picture was created. The sheer reaching vastness and unfathomable heights created a distinct feeling that makes any person feel in awe.

"Playa Michigan" by H. Ros
I studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico for 6 weeks on an IU program. The town, La Ciudad de Eterna Primavera (City of Eternal Spring) was beautiful. However, this photo is from a secluded beach we went camping on near Acapulco where a family cooked for us.

"Sunrise at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, India" by M. Dittman

"One More Glimpse of Her" by J. Frank
Every time the three of us started to walk away we couldn't resist turning back for just one more glimpse of her. We caught our shadows this time longing to meet the Eiffel Tower's base as her peak reached for the clouds. Paris was only a weekend adventure, but it was there we realized the meaning of our new found friendship and promised to one day meet again inside the beautiful city as long as she was still standing.

"Into the Sahara on Camel" by M. Troyer
This photo was taken in the Sahara desert in eastern Morocco. It was taken on a two-hour trek into the Sahara on camel, after which we were able to watch the sun set from the top of a sand hill and then sleep under the desert stars for a night. It was taken while traveling during a study abroad program in Aix-en-Provence, France. The girl pictured is another IU student, Anna.
