In a recent interview Betsy Stirratt, an artist as well
as
the director of the SoFA
Gallery,
said, “Artists in the ‘genetic age’ have once again taken the initiative
to
create works that have never been experienced before.” In creating the
exhibtion, Human
Nature II: Future Worlds, Stirratt sought to bring together the
work
of artists who are confronting the consequences of human advancement and
using
their creative abilities to generate reflection on and discussion about
the
work being done in the life sciences. The tour will provide an
opportunity to
talk with Stirratt about the art being created by artists who are
questioning
and participating in biological and technical research, in some cases
using
living tissue and organisms, and the issues they are raising, as well as
the
issues raised by the way they are doing their art. Refreshments will
be
served. This program is co-sponsored by the Wells Scholars Program.
