 —  The Future of U.S.-U.N. Reform

Town Hall: The United Nations and Global Security, with special guest Bruce Rashkow from the United Nations.

  • Tue., Apr. 5, 2005
  • 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Wittenberger Auditorium, IMU

While individuals around the world support the existence of the United Nations, they differ sharply on the extent to which the United States and other world powers should work through the United Nations to achieve their objectives. For example, should the United States have worked only through the United Nations in order to resolve the issues concerning Iraq? This town hall will examine a wide variety of questions, including, Can the United Nations be reformed to advance U.S. and world security? In what situations should the United States act independently? Bruce Rashkow, director of the United Nations' General Legal Division, will provide comments along with John Clark, senior fellow on international security and development at the Sagamore Institute, and IU Professor of Law David Fidler. After the panel presentation, panelists will participate in an open discussion with students and members of the community. There will also be time for questions. We hope you can join us! This forum is co-sponsored by Americans for Informed Democracy, the Stanley Foundation, IU Conversations About Service and Engagement (CASE), and the Hutton Honors College.
