"How much does the universe weigh?" Neta Bahcall, the Eugene Higgins
Professor of Astrophysics at Princeton University, has tackled such
questions in her influential work on the origin and evolution of the
universe. She is considered an international leader in the field, and she
has authored or co-authored nearly 300 scholarly papers; received many
honors and awards, including election to the National Academy of Sciences;
and served as the vice president of the American Astronomical Society from
1995 to 1998. Recently, she was the Distinguished Caroline Herschel
Visitor at the Hubble Space Telescope Science Institute. Join us for a
discussion of the universe, in its various dimensions. The supper is
co-sponsored by the Wells Scholars Program.
On campus as a Patten
Lecturer,
Bahcall will deliver two public lectures: "Will the Universe Expand
Forever?" on Tuesday, Oct. 23, and "The Dark Side of the Universe" on
Thursday, Oct. 25. Both lectures will take place at 7:30 p.m. in
Ballantine Hall 109.
