Bruce Alberts, professor of biochemistry and biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco, is a prominent and respected scientist who has dedicated time and energy to improving science and mathematics education in the United States. Described as "one of the most accomplished and distinguished presidents of the National Academy of Sciences (NAS)," he served two six-year terms as head of that organization and chaired the National Research Council until 2009. He has demonstrated exceptional leadership and made wide-ranging contributions to the improvement of science education, from co-authoring the preeminent cell biology textbook, The Molecular Biology of the Cell, to shaping and developing the National Science Education Standards, which have been voluntarily adopted to some extent in nearly every state in the nation. Join us for a lively discussion with this visionary scientist and advocate for education.
