Using frank discussion and examples of visual imagery, Natalia Deeb-Sossa and Matt Ezzell, anti-violence educators, rape crisis advocates, and doctoral candidates in sociology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, will discuss the state of sex and gender in our cultural landscape and the messages transmitted through mainstream advertising and mainstream pornography about men and women, sexuality, and race. They ask, What messages are being sold to us? Where do they come from? How do they affect us? What should we do? Their talk, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Center for Research on Concepts and Cognition; the Dean of the Faculties and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs; the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students; the Hutton Honors College; the Wells Scholars Program; the Kinsey Institute for Research in Sex, Gender and Reproduction; and the departments of anthropology, gender studies, and sociology at Indiana University Bloomington.

Please note the opportunity to attend a pizza discussion supper with Natalia Deeb-Sossa and Matt Ezzell at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 19.
