Year 3 Course Pages

During the initial planning period, you will identify or formulate a reading goal from your school’s improvement/action plan, one with a clear literacy focus, addressing your professional priorities and ultimately improving student learning.  You will also write a reflection on your school improvement plan/action plan.

Please complete Part A and Part B for Assignment #1.

Part A: Set a goal.

      Consider the following examples:

• My goal is to improve the fluency of my readers. Specifically, I want my students to improve in automaticity and reading with expression.
• Through this action research project, I hope to increase the reading vocabularies of my students. I would like to see an increase in recognition of first-grade level sight words and vocabulary.
• I would like my students to improve in their comprehension of non-fiction reading material. My goal is to improve comprehension in the areas of organizing the main ideas, recognizing important details, and summarizing.

Part B: Write a reflection.

Include the following information:

• Describe your thoughts as you read your school improvement plan/action plan. Did you experience any unanticipated challenges? How easy/difficult was it to make sense of the plan?

• Your goal: Why did you choose it? In what ways is it interesting, important, and relevant to you?

Submitting Work

Please write all assignments in a word document and save often in case of technological difficulties. You have two choices for submitting work: 1) You may copy and paste each assignment directly into the assignment box or 2) You may attach it beneath the box as a word document in the Oncourse class site.
