Vol. 18, No. 1 Fall 2005

Letter from the President

I am very pleased that we are able to offer you an issue of InULA Notes this fall, after a hiatus of several years. Our hard-working Communications Committee has resolved to create a publication that is interesting, informative and timely and that will reflect InULA's purposes.

This year has been eventful so far for the Executive Board. We began the year by considering our less fortunate colleagues and their libraries in the wake of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina. The Board became aware of the ALA Hurricane Katrina Library Relief Fund (http://www.ala.org/ala/cro/katrina/katrina.htm) and voted to donate $750 to help rebuild libraries through this fund.

Other initiatives we are undertaking this year include a redesign of our Web site and starting an Endowment Task Force to research possibilities for an InULA endowment.

We have awarded several Research Incentive Fund grants and one Professional Development grant in the first funding cycle.

One change this year is that the Indianapolis Book Sale Committee has decided not to hold a sale, so we will be relying on the Bloomington sale as our main fund raiser this year.

Membership is robust, and we look forward to seeing many of you at the December 16 membership meeting and luncheon at the IMU in Bloomington, where we will hear from two colleagues about their travels.

We want to hear from you with your ideas and suggestions so that we can better serve the membership. Please contact me or any of the Board members.

Wishing you a happy holiday season,

Anne Haynes, InULA President
