Introduction to Interface Design: - Full Service
The contractor model for managing projects places one person, or a small group of people, in the position of liaison to a full-service contractor. The contractor may use any kind of management model, but the client usually works directly with only one or two representatives of the contractor.
This model is best suited to projects when the client is attempting a type of product development that is new to his organization, but well understood by the contractor. The contractor must have a track record in this specific type of product development -- if the contractor does, this model offers low risk development with a dependable outcome. In this model, the client must specify the product carefully and avoid design changes in order to control costs.
