Advising Sessions
In the spirit of the program mission, all scholars are assigned a program advisor and must attend mandatory meetings each semester. These sessions include but are not limited to:
- Assessment of student academic and social progress
- Clarifying of HHSP and/or university policies and procedures
- Career visioning and exploration
- Referral to campus resources
It is the responsibility of the student to schedule required semester appointments in a timely and acceptable fashion. Every advisor has a different preferred method for scheduling appointments so students should check with their assigned program advisor for the best way to set up a meeting.
A scholar's cohort determines the number of required HHSP advising session per semester and is illustrated in the table below.
COHORT |
REQUIREMENT |
| Freshman | 2 advising sessions per semester |
| Sophomore | 2 advising session per semester |
| Junior | 1 advising session per semester |
| Senior | 1 advising session per semester |
Scholars on academic Probation 1 or 2 may be required to attend additional program advising sessions, as well as other support programs and tutorials toward GPA recovery. See the HHSP Academic Policy for more information.
Students should also schedule an appointment with their assigned academic advisor through University Division or their major department on or before the dates established by the university calendar for academic advising. University Division (UDIV) trained academic advising is available through the Hudson & Holland Scholars Program. All incoming HHSP scholars should meet with a HHSP Academic Advisor during all-university summer orientation.
