The Paul Lucas Conference in History at Indiana University presents

Ruptures and Revolutions: Moments of Change and Unrest

Friday and Saturday, March 23-25, 2012

The History Graduate Student Association at Indiana University invites paper submissions by graduate students for its 2012 conference to be held March 23-25 on the Bloomington campus entitled Ruptures and Revolutions: Moments of Change and Unrest. This year’s conference seeks the impact and meaning of transformations and unrest in an increasingly global community.

The conference welcomes submissions from a variety of fields that employ a wide arrany of methodologies. The committee encourages submissions of pre-organized panels comprised of three or four panelists with chair and discussant. In addition, pre-organized roundtable sessions and creative poster presentations are encouraged. Individual papers are weclome and will be assigned by the Conference Committee to a suitable panel.

Graduate and advanced undergraduate students, journalists, activists and members of the community who study or are actively engaged in protests and moments of change are cordially invited to submit papers and posters addressing all topics pertaining to contemporary and past political and social movements and revolutions in, but not limited to:

  • Technology, Medicine, and Science
  • Land, Space, and Human Geographies
  • Social, International, and Environmental Law
  • Performance, Aesthetics, and Tradition
  • Oral History and Material Culture
  • History, Memory, and Identity
  • Environment and Sustainability
  • Media and Visual Culture
  • Rhetoric, Language, and Representation
  • Community Activism and Civil Society

Please submit the items and information below no later than January 4, 2012.  The HGSA Conference Committee will evaluate abstracts and inform participants of their acceptance and panel assignment.

Please submit the following information via e-mail as an attachment to hgsaconf@indiana.edu by January 4th, 2011:

1. Paper abstract and title (no more than 250 words)
2. Institutional affiliation and title/position
3. Contact information: name, e-mail address, postal address, telephone/fax numbers

Note to Participants: Conference participation does not require a registration fee. The HGSA regrets that it cannot provide travel funding to participants. Visiting participants should contact HGSA at the email above to inquire about accommodations, whether paid or temporary housing with graduate students.
