Who are we?
What do we do?
The chair or co-chairs of the
GSC organize/s the meetings and act/s as a direct liaison to the chair of the
department. In the case of co-chairs, one of the chairs keeps the minutes at
GSC meetings and no secretary is elected. [Back to Top]
The secretary of the GSC is responsible for
keeping minutes for GSC meetings and distributing them to the graduate
student body via email. [Back to Top]
The Leser Lecture,
endowed by H.H.H. Remak in honor of Hedwig Leser, invites an up-and-coming scholar (typically
pre-tenure, i.e. an Assistant Professor) to give a lecture at the university
and to meet separately with the graduate students of our department to
discuss job market experiences. The organizers of the lecture (usually two
students collaborating) are responsible for creating a pool of potential
speakers, distributing a list for voting, inviting the lecturer, and hosting
the weekend of events. This is an excellent opportunity for new graduate
students to get involved in the department. [Back to Top]
The student observer at faculty
meetings attends the open meetings of the faculty (faculty meetings
are scheduled for Wednesdays from 11-12) and to report (generally by email)
to the graduate students. Depending upon a year's agenda, there may or may
not be many such open meetings. [Back

The representatives to the Graduate and Professional
Student Organization (GPSO) attend meetings and report on things of
interest to graduate students in our department. [Back to Top]
The Conference Committee is a
separate entity, distinct from the GSC, but since both work to serve the
interests of all graduate students in the department, a good communication is
maintained between both groups. The conference committee plans the biannual
spring German graduate student conference. The next conference is scheduled
for 2009, topic to be announced. Click here for more information on this
conference as it becomes available. [Back

The Pedagogical Resources Coordinator works
to make instructional aids available to all graduate students in the
department, either web-based or as office copies (or both). This position
also involves maintaining the online reservoir of materials as part of the gsc website. [Back to Top]
The webmaster is reponsible
for maintaining this website, a task which involves announcing upcoming
meetings, news, and events, keeping current the pages introducing the
graduate students, and providing links to helpful resources for incoming and
current graduate students. The webmaster is also responsible for posting
minutes from GSC meetings to the website. [Back to Top]
