GEO Meeting Notes 8/10/04
Present: Dave, Ursula, Josh, Elizabeth
Orientation presentations:
We have one new orientation presentation for Spanish and Portuguese. It
will be on Tuesday, August 24 at 8:45 am. Ursula will do this
presentation.
We also plan to hand out flyers to Germanic Languages and East Asian
Languages and Cultures
Elizabeth will contact HPER again to see if we can present to them.
Ursula presented a draft flyer for the presentations and will condense it to two pages.
Affiliation:
Josh will attempt to contact Susan Baxter-Fleming
Rally:
We're currently planning to hold a rally in the second week of school that will most likely focus on dental. We may make the rally broader if that seems to be the consensus among GEO members (let us know what you think!).
Ursula and Dave proposed combining the GEO rally either with an AFSCME and CWA rally or with AFSCME and CWA speakers. Ursula will contact Randy Pardue, AFSCME's president, to see if they would be interested. We think this would be a great way to build campus solidarity while also
guaranteeing us more bodies at the rally. We will make more concrete plans next week, especially concerning signs. We discussed where to hold the rally...Dunn Meadow is the most likely place to receive a permit, but it is not a very visible campus location. The Sample Gates might be an
alternative location. We will also need a flyer for this event.
Mass meeting:
We will hold our first mass meeting the week after the rally. We'll need to schedule and begin planning for this soon.
Next meeting:
Our next meeting will be Thursday, August 19 at 7:00 at the Bazaar Cafe. Please come!
