Stewards: new possibility of a steward from the German department. There is also a new steward from the history department: Dillon. Morgan was given the contact information for him. The SLIS steward is MIA; Emily reports that we need to get him to be reliable once, then he will follow through. So Morgan will apply pressure about the grade-in.
We will ask the stewards to spam their listservs, come to the grade-in and also motivate others in their departments to attend the grade-in. We will need an email to send to the members list as well as one to send to the stewards to post on their listservs. Ursula will look at previous emails and handle the emails. We will also send the stewards a copy of the flyer and ask them to post copies around their departments.
Emily will post the new flyer on the main page of the website.
Vanessa came with a draft of a press release. A few minor revisions were suggested, but in general, it's good to go. Contact information should be added. Vanessa will send out the press release on Monday and a reminder the day before the grade-in.
We reviewed the Theobald letter, and one suggestion was made about the reference to IU's mission statement. Renee will finish the letter tomorrow and send a copy to Emily to post on the website.
Publicity for the grade-in. We will explore radio shows and getting a spot on their "what's going on" spots: WFIU, WFHB, and the newspapers Herald-Times and the IDS all have a such local information. WTIU is the TV station that also has such a spot. Ursula has taken WFHB others should step up. Renee will do the math/science, SPEA and Business area; Ursula is taking Woodburn/Sycamore area; Morgan will take Ballantine and IMU; Vanessa will take Education and the other 10th street departments. On Sunday, we will meet at 9 p.m.in Ballantine to write on the chalkboards and put the magic box around the messages.
We will encourage people in the email to bring toothpaste so we can present the administration with a gift bag (courtesy of Vanessa) of toothpaste, etc. Ursula will bring materials for posters; Vanessa and I will bring fancy chalk. We will also talk about sidewalk chalk on Monday or so, if weather permits.
Next semester, we will also pursue the Trustees, who have a lot of power. They are an untapped resource for us, and Phil, a professor of Emily's, will talk to his father (a Trustee). We will write all of them, but focus our attention on the elected members. The others are appointed by the governor, and are relatively conservative. We should put this on the top of the list for next semester.
